The EMG SA Active Single Coil Guitar Pickup is active, meaning that it is powered by a 9V battery. The pickup is easy to install with no soldering, but the instructions could be clearer. If you're planning on installing the pickup on an old Fender Squier strat, you'll need to buy three separately. The EMG AB (Afterburner) is a great addition as it can be used in place of your tone (or volume) knob, activate with a variable gain push/pull pot, and works with both active and passive pickups. It is worth investing in the spc and exg knobs, although they are not included with the pickup.
