Shortly after appearing on the literary scene, young Dostoyevsky stated in an 1846 letter to his brother that he wanted to write a large Roman“, and with this intention Netochka began working on Nezvanova. When he was arrested in 1849 and sent to Siberia, the novel was left unfinished and Dostoyevsky never returned to this novel. Netochka Nezvanova begins with the sad childhood story of Netochka, who lives in a poor house with her suffering mother and father, an unsuccessful musician, and continues with the narratives of her early youth and youth.
