Pasajların bu kitapta toplanan metinleri, Walter Benjamin`in kendi öngörmüş olduğu, ama kendisi hayattayken basım aşamasına gelemeyen düzenlemeye sadık kalınarak bir araya getirilmiştir.Pasajlar (Passagenwerk), Alman düşünür ve kültür tarihçisi Walter Benjamin`in (1892-1940) ilk gençlik çağından başlayarak, ölümüne kadar üzerinde çalıştığı başyapıtıdır. 19. Yüzyıl`ın Başkenti Paris`le birlikte bu alandaki çalışmalarına başlayan, daha sonra yapıtını Baudelaire üzerine kaleme aldığı incelemelerle geliştiren Benjamin, Pasajlar`la, 19. Yüzyıl7ın kültür tarihini bütün toplumsal temelleri ve 20. Yüzyıl`a ait uzantılarıyla irdelemeyi öngörmüştür.
